Resort Lifestyle Communities is a company that considers both residents and employees like family. Every employee has the opportunity to convey the love and compassion that comes with family. Some employees choose to go above and beyond in their efforts to make each and every day a special one, truly impacting the lives of everyone who surrounds them. Ron Herron was one such person. In fact, as you will read below, Ron spent his entire working life in dedicated service to others.
Ron and his wife Annette were married in 1970. They began their life of service together in Boys Town, in Omaha Nebraska in 1973. Ron and Annette pioneered the house parent model for Boys Town, living under the same roof with up to 10 boys that came to the home with the need of structure, love, respect and family values. They raised their two children in this home as well. Doing this for over 11 years, Ron and Annette positively impacted the lives of countless boys and young men. Eventually, Ron and Annette developed other roles at Boys Town, and ultimately stayed in the organization together for a total of 25 years.
In 2003, Ron and Annette, looking for a way to continue to serve others, came to Resort Lifestyle Communities as Resident Managers at the newly built Walnut Grove community in Omaha Nebraska. Serving seniors was an incredibly good fit for them, and they continued with RLC as Marketers in our Maple Ridge, our third community in Omaha Nebraska, and finally as Resident Managers at Riverstone, in Kansas City, Missouri.
Sadly, while at Riverstone, Ron was diagnosed with throat cancer. While the initial prognosis was encouraging, it quickly became apparent to Ron’s medical care team that his life on earth was going to be cut short by the disease.
True to his spirit of joy for life, Ron and Annette hosted a “Ron Voyage” party to celebrate Ron’s life. It was Ron’s desire to see and catch up with family and friends before he passed. There was a fantastic turnout for Ron, including many of the men who had grown up in Boys Town under the positive influence of Ron and Annette.
Ron Herron passed away in August 2011.
At Resort Lifestyle Communities we deeply respect, honor, and appreciate the beautiful things that Ron Herron meant to our residents and the company. His daily commitment and selfless efforts resulted in an incredibly happy place for our residents and produced an endless string of ‘family’ relationships in his community. He and his wife Annette epitomized the attitude and character that we look for in every RLC employee.
To memorialize Ron’s contribution to our family, and to help carry forward his encouraging spirit, we’ve named an annual award in his honor. We invite you to view the short testimonials that introduce our current and previous recipients — you’re sure to be inspired by their commitment to service.
