February is all about love and kindness, with Valentine’s Day just around the corner and the official celebration of Random Acts of Kindness Month. It’s a time to be intentional about sharing a genuine spirit of compassion, which is why we’re proud to share a few heartwarming stories from our communities. With talented hands and full hearts, our residents are making a significant impact in the areas where they live, and we’re here for it all!
Lifestyle Director Jill Gillette from our community in South Jordan, Utah, brings us stories of compassion and dedication where residents actively support two charities, Tiny Tim’s Foundation for Kids and Hearts Knit Together.
Through Tiny Tim's Foundation, residents, including the remarkable 98-year-old Verna and 95-year-old Wayne pictured below, contribute their time and skills to create wooden cars and assemble dresses and bedding for children in need globally. Residents have volunteered many hours at the foundation as well as worked in our dedicated arts and crafts room.
Through Hearts Knit Together, the women at South Jordan View craft hat & scarf sets for young women facing domestic troubles or who are refugees. The kits include hygiene products as well. Both Tiny Tim's Foundation and Hearts Knit Together have been wonderful for the residents who love feeling helpful and needed.
Additionally, South Jordan View hosts an annual food and coat drive to further showcase its commitment to positively impacting neighbors in need.
Our community in Katy, Texas, is positively impacting lives through its resident-led group called M.A.D (Making A Difference). Lifestyle Director Devon Melby shared that this group of over 20 members meets weekly and collaborates with CASA – Child Advocates of Fort Bend. Support consists of shopping, volunteering as blanket cutters and weavers, and handling holiday preparations at Christmastime. They also put together stockings filled with fun items, candy, and games to donate to CASA each year.
In a remarkable achievement, Oak Park exceeded its yearly goal in December, earning an "Outstanding" volunteer group plaque in Fort Bend County. Last year alone, and by the generosity of Oak Park residents who are part of M.A.D., more than 300 children received therapy blankets, at least 400 children enjoyed snack bags, and 198 children without placement received hygiene bags.
And that’s not all! The community's resident-led choir, known for its 15-20 song productions, spreads joy not only within the Oak Park Retirement Resort but also locally, becoming beloved entertainers.
Last December, the T.O.P.S. Choir brought Christmas cheer to memory care facilities, and three assisted living facilities bused residents to Oak Park for a festive show. And adding a stylish touch, Oak Park hosted a "Sew Much Fun" Tea Party fashion show, where talented residents showcased their handmade clothes and jewelry on a dining room runway. The following snapshots capture the creativity and heartwarming community spirit at Oak Park.
Lifestyle Director Liz Meyers recently shared that our community in Hilliard, Ohio, is constantly using its creativity to serve others. A very active knitting and crochet group works tirelessly throughout the year, creating blankets, hats, and scarves for local charities through The Giving Tree. The initiative also allows residents to purchase items for this tree, which serves those in need.
Community love at Stone Oak goes beyond traditional crafting, with residents creating mats from plastic grocery bags every Thursday for local homeless shelters.
Residents also recently collected 150 pairs of shoes for Soles 4 Souls and crocheted 85 rescue nests for The Ohio Wildlife Center. The impact of their kindness was shown by the heartfelt appreciation from The Ohio Wildlife Center. They publicly thanked residents on Facebook for their contributions.
It’s evident that within the walls of our all-inclusive, independent retirement communities, the spirit of generosity and kindness thrives.
If you’re considering a move at any time soon, we’d love to welcome you. We know the journey is not just about finding a home; it's about discovering a place where your heart feels at home. And Resort Lifestyle Communities is where warmth and compassion will always await your arrival.
