Big Hearts in Littleton Food Drive

Seniors at Sky Pointe Retirement Resort encourage Littleton community to support area food banks

LITTLETON, CO — Residents of Sky Pointe Retirement Resort are showing just how big Littleton's heart is by hosting a drive-thru food drive benefiting the Open Arms Food Bank and Love Inc. Food Bank, now through June 20, 2020.

Join Sky Pointe residents on June 13 and 20 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for their Celebration of Life. Bring a donation and enjoy complimentary refreshments. Donations are being accepted now through Saturday, June 20 from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Sky Pointe Retirement Community, located at 5842 S Taft Street in Littleton.

The food drive aims to help build up food supplies for seniors in the Southwest Denver metropolitan area to provide nutritious meals as they continue to limit trips during this unique time. Sky Pointe residents understand that there are those in the community less fortunate and have rallied together to make a difference in response to current events.

"Colorado's aging adult population is especially vulnerable right now," said Whitney Hendrickson, Lifestyle Director at Sky Pointe. "It's critical that our seniors stay home, but they also need healthy food. They're our friends, neighbors, and family. That's why the drive-thru food drive is incredibly important."

Volunteers from Open Arms Food Bank and Love Inc. Food Bank will use donations from the food drive to fill boxes that are distributed to more than 600 families each week. The food banks deliver boxes of dry goods, as well as boxes with refrigerated and frozen items.

"The current health climate has posed additional barriers to food access for many, said Hendrickson. "This program is an example of big hearts in Littleton leveraging existing food distribution models to bring food to people where they are – to alleviate household food insecurity and to alleviate any concerns for those without transportation and other support."
