Residents "rocking" to raise funds for Alzheimer's research
LOUISVILLE, KY - Lake Forest Village Retirement Resort is set to host the Longest Day Rock-A-Thon benefiting the Alzheimer's Association on Friday, June 21 from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
The Longest Day®, is a day dedicated to all those affected by Alzheimer's disease. Residents and staff at Louisville's newest all-inclusive retirement resort will be "rocking around the clock" to ignite a conversation about Alzheimer's, the brain and other dementias as part of Alzheimer's & Brain Awareness Month® in June.
Held annually on the summer solstice, The Longest Day symbolizes the challenging journey of those living with Alzheimer's disease and their caregivers. Participants will pull up their rocking chair to rock to their favorite tunes from the 50s - to honor caregivers, someone living with Alzheimer's, or someone lost to this devastating disease. Together, participants will raise funds and awareness to advance Alzheimer's Association care, support and research programs.
"There are so many near to us who have been affected by this terrible disease that we wanted to host a 'Longest Day Rock-a-thon' at Lake Forest Village with our residents and staff to help honor their strength and endurance in the fight against Alzheimer's," said Joanie Mowry, manager at Lake Forest Village. "By coming together on this day, we hope to show these families that they are not alone and inspire hope for others."

The Longest Day is the day with the most light — the summer solstice. On June 21, thousands of participants from across the world come together to fight the darkness of Alzheimer's through an activity of their choice. Together, they use their creativity and passion to raise funds and awareness for the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association.
