River Valley Reviews

I go to River Valley as an entertainer. I am always greeted so nicely, and I am always asked if I need anything. The facility is always immaculate. The residents are so happy and express to me how much they love living there. I recommend it all the time to people I know looking for an amazing, safe, action-packed, full of life, and fun place to live. I took a tour, and there is so much to do there. The apartments are fabulous—managers on site 24/7.

My sister and I visited River Valley Retirement, an independent living community, and made a few friends there. We got into deep conversations we couldn't finish. Just running into folks in the hallway, you automatically connect to them, and it was a shame that we couldn't just go sit somewhere and bond. It has excellent customer service, and the staff members were very professional and friendly. The community members, the ones that I ran into, had an opportunity to just walk down the hallway with us and bond with some folks immediately. When the women were gathered, I ran into some of them in the beauty parlor, they were all chatty. I just poked my head in there to ask if they are licensed with curly hair because working with it is a concern for me if I use a beauty parlor. The person there said that she was. Even with the women who were waiting, getting their hair done, the one who was servicing the ladies still took the time out to answer my question, and that was very important to me. They're very responsive to the questions, and I thought that was excellent. We got a package of three little cannolis, and they were the most delicious. I would say the dessert was excellent, and I'm looking forward to lunch. It was also very kind of the staff to offer the cannolis because I needed something after the trip, as we hadn't had lunch yet. It was an impromptu visit. That was another plus, too, because they were able to allow us to have the impromptu visit instead of the appointed date. I had spine surgery, and my twin sister is also a double knee replacement candidate, so it's a perfect facility to recuperate and enjoy with other people. You could socialize there, and we're very social and love talking and bonding with strangers. I love the fact that they have different types of exercises and recuperation methods onsite. I love the grounds, and the room was very clean and had everything that you needed. It had a kitchen, even if you wouldn't need a kitchen. I couldn't complain about anything about the facility. There was good parking, good transportation, and it's close to everything. You have a five-star facility right there. There are some other facilities in the area, but you have to take the ferry if you have to visit family members. With this, it's close by, and family members could stop by and see how you're recuperating, and that's important to me. My grandchildren can stop by with their mom and visit me.

I love it here at River Valley! When my husband died in [date removed], I didn't know what I wanted to do. I discussed it with my daughter and son-in-law and I said I wanna find a place that's fun and has things to do I called around and I found this place we did check out other places, but this place was the best for the money Three meals a day plus snacks plus ice cream. It looks like a ship you feel like you're on vacation all day long time flies. I love it here. The concierge is very helpful, managers go out of their way to please, cats and dogs are welcome on the first floor for dogs, and cats can go on the second and third. I have a scooter and a lot of residents have walkers, all are welcome!

I love this place and the staff are very helpful. The nicest thing at River Valley is the friendly residents and staff members. Within a few weeks/months I felt like I was in the middle of family. And I feel that today. I know almost everyone by name -- and something about their life situation to ask questions about. I also like the fact I don't have to cook or clean up the dishes. I don't rate the food so high, but I think that's because Covid changed my sense of taste. There are many good activities you can join throughout the day. The rooms are quiet. The staff addresses your questions/needs

Love it here. The apartments are spacious and well-appointed. The staff is outstanding. Originally came for the rental with no buy-in, something that is very important to me. Three meals a day with no extra charge for apartment delivery. Lots of fun activities. I have been here for over 3 years and I am so glad I chose River Valley!

ALL 5's!!!!!! I'm not kidding. It is seriously I would give them all tens. I cannot speak more highly of River Valley. I never worry about my parents and that is a blessing. They are taken care of. They wear something around their neck that God forbid they fall they push a button and are there within minutes. It's just amazing. The staff cares about the people living there and everything else you listed, literally five and up... A place that people should see for sure one hundred percent the facility itself is truly amazing. Everything's amazing. And out of all the ones we looked at it was believe it or not the most reasonable to. Everything is included - electricity, phone cable. Everything's included all meals three meals a day. My parents LOVE it and could not imagine living anywhere else. I go at least twice a week or more they welcome families unlike a bunch of others we looked at and it is so clean and the staff is so nice as are the residents. Most know. My name is just from visiting my parents. I feel like I've gained some extra parents they are so sweet... Totally recommend it to anyone!

From start to finish the experience was very rewarding. They were very helpful and I was very impressed by how well they handled each aspect of the process. The way they handled the process was very simple and very straightforward.

We have family that has been living here for a couple of months now: The staff are extremely friendly, helpful, and always positive. The food is great and the common areas are well-maintained. All of the residents that I have ever spoken to in-depth say the same thing: It's a nice place to live!
Chris Eriksson
My mom is a resident at The River Valley Community in Trumbull and overall things have been great at this facility. Any dealings that my mom and I have had with the staff have all been pleasant. My mom's room and the entire facility always smells and looks very clean when I visit. Meals here are tasty. My mom is eating much better than she was, and she is very happy here. I couldn't think of a better place than River Valley, and I can't recommend them strongly enough.

Love living here great food, great people

I have lived at River Valley for one year. No regrets and no complaints. I value most the daily interactions with other residents and the activities both planned and spontaneous. I have found some new friends, which is most gratifying at this stage of my life. I have and will continue to recommend River Valley to others.

On November 3, 2023 I moved from my condo of 23 years to my apartment at River Valley, an Independent Senior Residence. Moving in was made easy for me by Hillary and Bob the live-in managers. I met them the day I came to River Valley. My son and I were so impressed we looked no further. Everything I could possibly want is here and taken care by a helpful staff. A call to the manager's office and the request is answered quickly. The food staff works hard to honor various meal requests. I can't imagine a better meal or a better time than New Years Eve here at River Valley. Bob and Hillary worked hard to make it enjoyable for all and they succeeded. I made the right decision to move in and plan on having many good years here!

My sister moved to River Valley in Trumbull Ct, on Oct 1, 2023. She moved a few weeks after having hip replacement surgery, and was continuing her recovery there. I was staying with her to help her settle into her new home. Unfortunately shortly after I left she started to have some additional health issues. The manga team of Hillary Klein and Bob Johnston were quick to notify me of these issues. Early in November she had a stroke and was hospitalized. I immediately returned to River Valley. Hillary and Bob were there to greet me upon my arrival, to offer support for whatever I needed. The emotional support they and the residents offered was amazing. Everyday upon my return from visiting my sister the staff and residents asked for updates and sent good wishes. I was treated as if I was part of the community. Upon her return after 3 weeks in Rehab, the community of River Valley welcomed my sister back with open arms. Cheering on to continue her progress. She is now making amazing progress in her recovery, with the support of the River Valley community at her side. The community of River Valley is a family, whether you lived there a day or a year. They are there to help you through the good and the bad. I couldn’t be happier she lives there.

The people and staff are exceedingly friendly and helpful. They try to foster unity and caring. The activities are great. The fish is always great. Sometimes the chicken is overcooked and dry. My husband likes it though. I am probably a picky eater. All in all, I really like River Valley. It is a great place to live.

A great lifestyle! After many years of home ownership my Wife and I were looking for the 'easy life' yet independent living and an active social life. We found our perfect place here at River Valley. The facilities are modern, clean and comfortable......the location is perfect for us. However, the most important thing was the welcoming and warm attitude of both the Residents and Staff. River Valley supports a strong sense of Community which is so essential for a successful retirement lifestyle.

good food, a great way to make friends, and if you want privacy you have a beautiful apartment

This wonderful, comfortable, and welcoming community is chock full of amenities where residents create new friendships, engage in numerous activities, and are delighted to be there. The entire staff - from on-site managers Hillary and Bob to the dining staff and beyond - all care about the comfort and enjoyment of residents. It is one of the friendliest communities I have ever visited.
Emlyn Duemmler
Hilary and Bob run this fabulous community and truly care about everyone here and have been so instrumental in caring for my father and mother-in-law when they moved in a short time ago… recently my father-in-law passed away and they have treated our whole family with love and care - I feel so much at peace knowing my mother in law is here in a wonderful welcoming home. Amazing amenities, great location, convenient to local needs, comfortable environment, and wonderful people here who smile and care.
Stephanie Baron
Lovely community with warm and helpful staff. My mom moved in about a year ago and quickly assimilated into the community. This was due to the engaging staff who work hard to establish daily programs the residents want to participate in. The Directors, Bob, and Hilary are always available and willing to help. What also makes this community unique is its residents. They are spry, fun-loving, and welcoming and their diversity in interests and past experiences enhances the benefits of living at River Valley.
Carolyn
I thought River Valley Retirement had a really nice setup when you first walked in. They had a waterfall and the dining room right behind it and it opened to the windows. It was a very beautiful place in terms of aesthetics. The facilities were nice. It's in the woods and they had a nice path that goes around. They had the community room and they also had these areas where you could just sit out, like the hallways, and read, and there's a fireplace and stuff. That was really cool.

I toured this community about a year ago, but it wasn't the right timing for my mother. We came back and toured again in January 2023 and knew it was the right time! We were greeted this time by the new community managers, Hillary and Bob, and they were incredible! They immediately offered us a specialty coffee and were just charming. We toured with Lesley, who was absolutely wonderful. She listened intently and answered all of our questions with sensitivity and honesty. The team asked us to have brunch, which consisted of Prime Rib, unbelievable mashed potatoes and glazed carrots! The food was perfect. So many options, especially for my mom, who is a vegetarian. Super salad and fruit bar along with pastas. The chefs were not there when I first toured, as I had inquired about how the food was much better this time. My mom is so excited to move here. She has finally found her new home and the best part about it, is that I do not have to worry about her! In the 2 hours that we were there, she met 5 ladies that made friends with her that day. Kudos to River Valley Community and their wonderful staff that obviously loves their residents!
Susan Bellamente
My parents are so happy here. My sisters and I do not have to worry about them one bit. They are more active than they have ever been. They have stuff going on all the time and we love that they encourage the families to come and participate. [name removed] in the greetings department is beyond sweet. Everyone is so welcoming and friendly and everyone wears name tags so people call you by name. I would highly recommend River Valley Retirement to others looking and already have. We looked at about 15 other places and this is the only place we would ever put our parents in, especially for the value. I can really go on and on about them.
Krissy
I visited several similar residences and was most impressed with River Valley as the person who provided me with the tour was very enthusiastic and caring. She knew all the residents by their names. This was unique compared to the other facilities I visited. The place was very clean.
Carolyn Wood
I had a tour at River Valley and I was greeted by [name removed], the concierge, that really impressed me! My tour was with [name removed]. She was incredible, thorough, honest, and funny! I met several of the residents that I immediately took a liking to. The place was immaculate. I loved how new it was. I had the opportunity to eat brunch there and had prime rib along with eggs made to order. The options were endless. Gourmet is the word! The service was wonderful, too. After Brunch, [name removed] came back to us and we started our tour. I loved that they had a bank, gym, salon, arcade room, and general store. We went to a 2-bedroom apartment on the first floor. I have a dog and they allow them on that floor. It was absolutely perfect! The walk-out patio is easy to access for my dog. Full kitchen, full capacity washer, and dryer, all appliances are GE and new, closets are large and it includes everything in the rent! It is also month to month. Highly recommend. I signed last week. Can’t wait to move!

I really like living here. It's a place where your mom chooses to live, not where you put her. And Dad is also welcome.

This is like being on a land cruise—entertainment, food, lodging, housekeeping, friendly staff, and residents. Enjoy mingling or your privacy and independence—transportation provided to Dr.

I was one of the very first to move into this community, [date removed] and I am still very pleased with the accommodations, the service, the multiple entertainment options, and the staff. I highly recommend it to anyone age-eligible for themselves or their parents. I didn't give the highest rating to meals only because I have digestive problems and cannot expect that to affect their menus. But I never go hungry and am always satisfied so it is just a minuscule out of the perfect 5!

Clean and beautiful. Everything is new. I liked that it is all-inclusive. The residents are so wonderful.

River Valley has got to be the best choice someone could make for their family. They have everything you could think about. The meals are unbelievably good, they are hot, and no wait time. This is truly a resort, or you might say it is a cruise ship that doesn't leave the dock. The whole team is very nice and dedicated to all the residents. I would give more stars if I could.
Herb Nichols
Just incredible! Best of the best! Highly recommend! Happy residents are what matters the most! The amenities are awesome! Food is gourmet! Sunday brunch is amazing, the employees are wonderful and helpful, and the movie theatre is jaw-dropping!

I cannot say enough about the beautiful River Valley Retirement Community in Trumbull, CT, and all the wonderful amenities it includes and social activities throughout the day. Rita Bell, the Senior Living Consultant, is one of the nicest people I have met, and everyone loves her. She is so willing to help and is truly an asset to the community. River Valley is truly a gem in the heart of Fairfield County.

I am really happy with my room, the view from my balcony, the staff, the availability of activities, and the right to participate or not. the meals and the cleaning of my room gives me pleasure and time to do "my things". the building is clean and well laid out. I have a garage for my car and other stuff. who wouldn't be happy?

This has been one of the best moves that our family has made. Our loved ones weren't quite ready for assisted living and this fits great. This community is new and the staff is friendly and everyone has been great in this community with us and our loved ones. They have activities like bingo, guest speakers to talk about finances, and more for the residents. They have an art room, a theater, they had a Superbowl party a valentines party, a Christmas party and they even have a church on site for the residents. They also have a salon on-site for the residents to use.

Myself (Branch Manager) and Assisted Living Home Care Services has recently formed a wonderful relationship with River Valley and it's management team - Carol, Kevin, Rita & Audra. We started hosting a Happy Hour once a month and have been so impressed with this community. The design and layout is so warm and welcoming. The cleanliness it outstanding, the food is wonderful, and the activities are endless. We've met several residents already and all have been very friendly and gracious. This community is a great place for your loved ones to feel "at home", engaged and safe. I would highly recommend a tour and to consider this "the place to be" during the aging years.

I just want to let you know how fabulous Carol and Kevin Maddock are in your River Valley Retirement Community in Trumbull, CT They are so welcoming from the minute you walk in the door. Their community is gorgeous and immaculate. Their hearts are truly in it and their commitment overflows into all areas of the community. Their support for the physical, emotional, and spiritual wellness of their residents is plain in all that they do. Their approach to elder care is filled with kindness and compassion and leaves a lasting smile not only on their residents' faces but also on the faces of the families who visit. My agency sets the home care bar high. What a pleasure it was to meet others who have the same standards. You want your loved ones to live in a place where they can feel safe, cared for, comfortable and loved. Carol and Kevin provide all that! And their staff follows their lead. I am very fortunate to have met them and will recommend this community to all my clients, friends, and neighbors. Wishing you continued success in 2022! Stay well and safe.

I had a very positive impression of River Valley Retirement Community. I liked both the facility and the personnel, especially Rita (who is the director there). She took so much time with me. She was understanding of what I was looking for. She followed up promptly, and she actually went out of her way to find a room there that would fit my father's requirements. She's been following up with me and helping me answer any of the questions. The facility itself was wonderful. I can't say enough. It was beautiful. It had everything that you could want. The food was very good. The atmosphere was very nice. Even the individual rooms, really, really had good layout for people that are older. They had good choices. You had studios all the way up to two-bedrooms, which kind of accommodates a lot of different people. If it was my choice, he would be there. My father just wants a more hands-on skilled nursing place. They have a movie theater with comfortable seating, a library, and a meditation room or a quiet room (where people can meditate and pray). Not only do they have a washer and dryer in the units, but they also have a separate room for washer and dryer for big and bulky things, like comforters. The hallways were nice and wide. They had a hairdresser on-site. They had a place to get hairdressing and nails done. They had a little convenience store. You get your own mailbox. There's plenty of parking. They have a room if you want to have a private dinner with your family. They offer food 24/7, not just at mealtime. If you're hungry between meals or late at night and you want a hamburger or pizza, the grill is always available to you. The menu was excellent. They had a lot to offer.
Erica
River Valley Retirement was beautiful. I liked everything about it: the food, the layout, and the activities. It was quite expensive, but they're all around the same price. The staff was very good and very knowledgeable. The food was amazing. We had lunch there that day of the tour, and it was very, very good. They had a chef onsite. The only concern I have is I don't think they have special meals for special needs. I'm not sure how that one works. My sister is diabetic, and she has a kidney diet. I don't know if they have special diets because it is an independent living, not assisted living. The place is spectacular. It looks beautiful. The whole layout is very nice. Each individual unit has its own washer-dryer, which is important. They also have full kitchens. It's a normal-sized apartment unit.
Kate
River Valley has just opened this past week. It's brand new. In fact, they were still doing some construction when I was in there, and that was about two and a half weeks ago. The staff showed me this model studio suite, which was pretty big, and that was about all that I saw because of the work that was going on in there. Their dining room is more like a big restaurant. It's a resort retirement type. However, that might not be my lifestyle.
